If you suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), you may find help with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatments.
NeuroStar Advanced TMS therapy is performed on adults and adolescents (15 and up) with MDD and adults (22 and up) with anxious depression. The good news is that you can return home, to school, or to work immediately after your TMS session because no anesthesia or sedative is necessary. You will be awake throughout the procedure, and you will not need recovery time. After your first TMS session, you will ideally have 36 more treatments that take less than 20 minutes per day.
NeuroStar Advanced TMS treatment is a noninvasive therapy that sends electromagnetic impulses into the brain to awaken areas that are less active than others and are associated with depression. TMS is not electroconvulsive therapy.
During your initial session with NeuroStar TMS, you will need to remove anything made of metal from your clothing or accessories, just as with MRI scanning. An initial 30-minute analysis will consist of brain mapping to measure your threshold for electromagnetic pulsation. You will receive mapping to scale the precise amount of electromagnetic energy needed to produce a neurological effect.
Our NeuroStar therapists will rest a small coil at the top of your head. At the same time, the clinician will focus a magnetic field on the centers of your brain responsible for depression. You may feel a slight tapping or pulsing and hear some quiet clicking.
NeuroStar Advanced TMS is reserved for patients suffering from MDD who have not responded well enough to, at minimum, two antidepressant medications. Adults diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or anxious depression can also receive NeuroStar TMS.
Depression and anxious depression are two mental health disorders that most often occur together. Patients whose psychiatrists have diagnosed them with MDD experience low moods daily, cannot focus, and lose their interest in daily activities. They suffer from depression and anxious depression at the same time. After the overly quiet areas of your brain are stimulated, you will find you have an improved outlook and mood and feel content—this can happen as early as your initial TMS treatment.
Beyond your antidepressant medication and talk therapy, you may still feel overwhelmed in your everyday life. If you have been diagnosed with depression with comorbid anxiety, feel on edge, and constantly worry while perpetually fearing bad events that may never occur, NeuroStar TMS may be right for you.
Your insurance carrier will likely cover NeuroStar TMS, so you can continue beyond your first TMS session at Synergy Strive to achieve long-term wellness. Call for a free consultation with our mental health practitioners.

Important Safety Information
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is only available by prescription. A doctor can help decide if NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is right for you. Patients’ results may vary.
The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient; they occur during the TMS treatment course and do not occur for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).
