Dr. Casmir-Anyanwu is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and public health professional who achieved her doctorate in nursing practice, specializing in psychiatric mental health with a focus on global health. She holds a doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Maryland, a master’s in public health from Southern New Hampshire University, and a bachelor’s in nursing science from America Sentinel University. She is a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland and the American Public Health Association.
As a curious individual, Dr. Casmir seeks opportunities to think, question, participate, and respond. This attribute has contributed to her outstanding academic achievements: Valedictorian of her graduate program (2019); recipient of the prestigious University of Maryland Conway Scholarship; and member of Sigma Theta Tau International. She recently started working as an adjunct professor to give back to her community.
Her career journey started in 2002 as a staff nurse; and in 2003, she became a midwife. Dr Casmir discovered her passion for mental health in 2009 when she worked as a registered nurse in an inpatient adolescent unit. In 2013, she started working for the DC Department of Behavioral Health providing care to forensic patients and adults with mental illness.
Dr. Casmir practices holistic healthcare and seeks to understand all aspects of an individual’s history, which could affect every part of their life. She takes an integrative approach to mental health, using medication as an adjunct to therapy, and she promotes skills needed to decrease trauma reactions and foster resilience.
When she’s not working, Dr Casmir likes catching up on her favorite TV shows, dancing, and goofing around with her family.
